Stuff and Things

I'm thus far beating the bajeezus out of grad school, which is where a lot (or all) of my time has been going. Still going at it, incidentally, so a low likelihood of my returning to writing here all that soon.

That said, and the main reason for my emerging, blinking, from the shadowed halls of my warren of academia, is a recommendation.

A friend of mine from the real world has started a blog devoted to nail polish type stuff. Personally, I told you everything I know about nail polish with the first 'S' of Stuff and Things, but if you're so inclined, you can give it a gander. She approaches the material as a hobbyist, and she's got good taste. Her blog's called Polished Casual, so go take a look, and follow her if you're on Blogspot.

All the best.

Who the hell's Warren?

A Not-So-Generic Genre

I reference music quite a bit in the titles of my stories, sometimes because I'm listening to said music while writing them, and sometimes because, in a visual medium, I'd have liked that particular song to be playing.

Considering the fact that fanfiction read through a computer screen kind of breaks free of your typical literary medium, a though occurs.

I found this nifty little HTML code earlier:

Combine it with a link, and setting the cue for when the song would be played in a visual medium is suddenly less than hard. Just open the link in a new tab and have the music in the background. I don't like reading a book with music playing, but fanfiction? Not so much a chore.

I don't want this to be mistaken for substituting ambiance for writing ability in evoking a certain mood for a story, but maybe it'll be more like a spice.

Thinking about going back over some of my previous work and giving this a shot, just to cue in the stuff I've already referenced. Considering the various methods by which I posted the stories, it might be tough, but I'll try not to completely obliterate the stories or their formatting. Future stories which have musical references like this will use this gimmick trick.

Let's see where it goes.

All the best.

Turns out the dog ain't THAT old.

It's Not a Block So Much As a Bottleneck

It's weird what being unable to write for a while will do to inspiration. It's been about a month and a half since I've worked on my dedicated series, and each day makes it a bit harder to want to take some time for it.

So, I dunno. I plan to finish both Don't Go Solo and Lost and Found, but once I do, I'm not sure what I'll do after. Being back in school doesn't necessarily take away the time to work on them, but it takes away the boredom that led me to develop the stories in the first place.

Either way, expect some work on Solo at the very least somewhat soon.

All the best.

A publisher would'a quit on him by now.

S'mores and Krembo : Ensemble

Title: S'mores and Krembo
Series: Birthday fics, tigerlily0484
Pairing: N/A
Rating: PG-13 for mild language
Setting: post-Season 3, pre-Season 4
Word Count: 1,558 words

Disclaimer: NCIS was created by Donal Bellisario and Bellisarius Productions. All characters, places, and events are the property of the aforementioned and Paramount Television.

Summary: After one long week and before another, it might be time to have a buddy cop moment. There's no reason they can't be dysfunctional about it.

Did someone say Casablanca?Collapse )

Well, there's an NCIS story for you. If that's your thing.

Internet at the homestead is painstakingly spotty. In particular, this story's actually been finished for two days, but I've been unable to post it. Got a weak signal right now, but by all accounts, it'll be gone very shortly.

Not sure when the issue's going to be fixed, since it arises from construction being done in the neighborhood, so I might not be around all that much until June, when I head back to the college town.

Either way, happy belated birthday tigerlily0484.

Really, really hope you liked it.

All the best.

Words for the Girl : B/S

I knew a girl, once.Collapse )

That was about as obliquely Buffy/Spike as it could be and still be Buffy/Spike. Still, it's a first, and it's far from my standard fare, so it took me longer than it should have.

And now, whatever I write, be it narrative or breakdowns like this, I have to force myself not to do it with poetic rhythm ticking away in my head.

Happy belated birthday, moscow_watcher.

Really, really hope you liked it.

All the best.

Getting old is never funny.Collapse )

Huh. For the record, I did this one back to back with finishing my last grad paper. My brain wires are having issues coming down of techie speak, but I'll get there.

The title's a reference to this nifty song.

Happy belated birthday, hpchick.

Really, really hope you liked it.

Life with Wally

Reached a bit of a a breaking point, thank whomever you like. Unfortunately, this is more like a plateau than easy coasting, so I still don't have quite as much time as I'd like to be able to work on anything fiction-like.

Classes finish up next week, which is also when the majority of my grad work is due, so I'll be nose-to-the-grindstone for another little while yet. I'll be assigning priority to belated birthday pieces first thing, which means that hpchick, you need to let me know what kind of story you'd like. Others, I'm either well aware of your tastes, or we've already talked about it.

Offsides, both with my little glimpses of free time lately and before, been working on something not-of-the-fan-kind of fiction. I might put a few little glimpses of that up, but it's more something I'd like to see released in a... professional medium.

If that doesn't sound conceited.

All the best.

Can the great American novel be about zombies?

All That Time I Don't Have

So. Grad papers don't write themselves.

That bothers me more than I should let it.

Free time? I didn't realize Time was in captivity.
Title: New Old Feeling
Series: Don't Go Solo
Pairing: N/A
Rating: PG-13 for violence and language
Setting: post-He's No Jack Sparrow and post-Introspect
Word Count: 3,257 words

Disclaimer: Buffy the Vampire Slayer was created by Joss Whedon and Mutant Enemy. All characters, places, and events are the property of the aforementioned and Twentieth Century Fox.

Summary: They're a long way from where they started. They're a longer way from where they're going. Buffy decides enough is enough, and Willow doesn't know what to think.

They"re not going solo, and this seems like a positive step.Collapse )

Aha, we have a development with the personal issues. Always feels good to get something done in that department.

The title works out in a few ways, but it mostly references the way the various characters have described Willow in my assorted series.

Hope you liked it.

They"re not going solo, but they don"t look at each other the same way anymore.Collapse )

Gonna see what I can do about updating more often than once a week. I love writing, but when the majority of the work I'm doing right now revolves around writing graduate project papers—yeah, ends up being a little less enjoyable.

Hope you liked it.
